This month electricity customers will see the effect on their bills of the increasing fuel prices on the world market, which recently reached a record high of over US$42 per barrel.

The fuel clause adjustment for June has reached 15.6636 cents per kilowatt-hour, an increase of 1.7 cents per kilowatt-hour over May and the highest it has been since 1981. As a result of this increase, a residential customer using 200 kilowatt-hours of energy in June will pay $82.26, an increase of $3.93 over what they would have paid in May for the same amount of energy consumed.

Unless there is a reduction in the price of fuel in the near future, the fuel clause adjustment may reach even higher levels in the coming months as stocks of the lower priced fuel are used up and the full impact of the higher prices are felt.

As Light & Power continues its efforts to minimize the impact that increasing fuel prices have on the cost of electricity, it reminds customers that they too can play a role in keeping their energy costs down by conserving energy. Brochures containing helpful tips on conserving energy, are available at Light & Power's offices and here in our "Energy Conservation Tips" under the @Home menu.
