|Supervisor of the Year, Trevor Gittens and Employee of the Year, Tiffani Straker, basking in their success with the Managing Director, Peter Williams (centre). |
Our Company staged our 23rd annual salute to excellence, on Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Barbados Hilton Hotel.
It was there that our finest performers were recognized and a new Supervisor and Employee of the Year were crowned. Claiming these titles respectively, from a field of well-deserving employees, who challenge themselves daily to provide the best service possible for our customers, were Trevor Gittens of the Generation Department and Tiffani Straker of the Information Systems Department.
Trevor is a Performance Supervisor in the Generation Department, who not only performs at a high level consistently, but who possesses a remarkable work ethic, a strong sense of dedication to his job and superb problem-solving skills. A quick, analytical thinker, he has only to be told the concept of what is to be done in any given task and he is guaranteed to exceed expectations.
A member of the Light & Power Family since 1989, Trevor has demonstrated his keen eye for detail - a vital characteristic in the performance reporting and analysis role that he is required to play in the Company's operations. Indeed, it was his attention to detail that resulted in one of his major on-the-job triumphs. His quick eye earned him the Company's Managing Director's Award, when he discovered an error, which resulted in significant savings for the Company.
A member of the Company's Performance Bonus and Information Security Management System Project Teams, Trevor is also a self-starter and a motivator to his staff members. Indeed, he commands the respect of his colleagues throughout the Company. He is a fine example of what a good employee should be and as such, was nominated for the Supervisor of the Year Award on three previous occasions.
Tiffani Straker joined the Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd. in 2002 and from that time, she proved herself to be a valuable asset to the Information Systems Department.
Tiffani has been heavily involved in a number of important Company IT related projects and works assiduously to ensure that users of these various systems are not adversely affected by any technical issues which may arise from time to time. During 2007, Tiffani assisted new staff members in settling into the Section and the Department, as well as providing guidance with their work. Highly knowledgeable in the IT field, she was an obvious choice to assist the Technical Team with the ever-increasing workload associated with the development and implementation of the Company's new Customer Information System.
A fast learner and a good team player, some of her colleagues insist that she needs not be told anything twice. She has a firm grasp of IT concepts and was able to make a worthwhile contribution to the development of the Company's financial interfaces and reports.
A pleasant, well-mannered young lady, Tiffani gained a reputation within the Information Systems Department for getting work done quickly. In fact, her dedication to her work earned her three awards for Perfect Attendance and a promotion to the post of Database Administrator last year.
Tiffani also busies herself in other areas of the Company's activities. She is a member of the Employee Relations Council and a member of the Supervisory Committee of the Light & Power Cooperative Credit Union. She was a member of the Reddy Panners, our in-house steel pan troupe, and served a term of office as its Secretary.
During the ceremony, a total of 123 awards were presented to employees, in areas ranging from Long Service, Customer Service and Perfect Attendance, to Volunteerism and overall excellence.
We congratulate Trevor and Tiffani, along with all the other award winners, who are indeed the cream of the Kilowatt Crop.
