Our 2008 hurricane relief team left Barbados for Grand Turk on September 24, to assist in the restoration of electricity following the passage of Hurricane Ike, which devastated the Turks & Caicos Islands on September 7.
Our team, comprising Distribution Engineer, Wayne Blunt, Distribution Supervisor, Reginald Parris and Linemen: David Slocombe, Samuel Blades, Ralston Gittens and Ronald Stanford, joined other crews from Grenlec, Domlec and other CARILEC member states to begin an intensive electricity restoration effort. This restoration process is being coordinated by CARILEC through a programme which provides electricity restoration assistance for member utilities in the aftermath of natural disasters, such as this one. As part of this programme, our Company was asked to participate in the restoration effort, hence the dispatch of our six member crew to Grand Turk, for a period of approximately three weeks.
We wish them a safe and successful mission.
