In an on-going effort to assist in the development of students and the future workforce of the nation, Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd. (BL&P) recently made a presentation of several (or set of) National Electric Code (NEC) books to the Samuel Jackman Polytechnic and Barbados Vocational Training Board. These books, which are produced by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) of the USA, contain the NEC which is the main electric code used by the Government Electrical Engineering Department (GEED) for certifying electrical installations in Barbados and will provide practical knowledge for students training in the area of electrical engineering.

Tony Seale, Human Resource Advisor with BL&P, reminded that this was part of an ongoing relationship with the SJPP and the Barbados Vocational Training Board over the years. The Company has provided summer job attachments for students to gain practical knowledge and experience in a working environment. He noted that ‘Management is happy to provide the NEC books, be a part of the development of these students and they look forward to further strengthening of the relationships with the institutions’.
BL&P is planning a seminar series later this year to again work with the qualified electricians on industry developments and standard-up-dates that are important for them to know.
