As result of a tropical wave passing over the island, Barbados experienced inclement weather during the day on Sunday, September 23, 2012. While the resulting rain, gusty winds and lightning did not impact the operation of the overall electrical generating system, it did affect power supply to some areas across the island due mainly to fallen tree branches. However, there were a few cases of fallen poles, damage to lines from the high winds and damage to transformers from the lightning.
The main areas affected by outages were, Woodland and surrounding areas in St George; Dukes and surrounding areas in St Thomas; St. Simons in St Andrew; North Friendship in St Michael; Fort George Heights & surrounding areas in Christ Church; Atlantic Park, Poolers Land, Green Point, Mangrove and surrounding areas in St Philip, along with a few other areas across the island.
Extra crews were called to duty during the day to assist the emergency crews in order to restore supply to affected customers as quickly as possible. Work continued into the evening to complete the restoration process.
Light & Power apologises for any inconvenience these outages may have caused to those who were affected and thanks them for their patience and understanding.
